Drumming & Well-being

DRUMMING AND WELL-BEING

So many aspects of modern life isolate us from one another. Drumming is a great way to let go of life’s stresses and connect with others through a shared experience.

Drum Up Big recognizes the power of drumming as a healing tool, as a means of self-expression and as a way to connect with others. The drum circle encourages individuals to come together in a temporary community to make music and promote unity. Participating in rhythmical expression as a group contributes to people’s individual feelings of well-being, and a shared experience of harmony.

Therapeutic Effects of Group Drumming

There is a growing body of research on the therapeutic effects of repetitive drumming with others.

Studies have confirmed that drumming:

  • Changes brain-wave activity in a way that induces a state of calm and focused awareness
  • Serves as a way to release emotions, relieving stress, depression and anxiety
  • Boosts the immune system, accelerating physical healing
  • Promotes freedom of expression
  • Promotes a positive emotional state by enhancing people’s sense of belonging to a group
  • Restores natural rhythms and improves coordination

Meditation

Repetitive drumming is meditative. It can provide you with the time and space you need for reflection. It can clear your mind of ‘mental chatter’.

Positivity

Drumming can serve as a distraction from pain or grief and is an excellent way to channel aggressive/destructive impulses into a creative and positive activity.

Drumming is enjoyable, and enjoying yourself is good for you!
